(1) In every shop or establishment the shop-keeper or employer concerned shall for the purpose of 19[this Act and any other law for the time being in force], maintain and keep a register of employees in the prescribed form and such other registers records and documents and display such notices as may be prescribed and produce them on demand by the Inspector.20 [The registers shall be kept up-to- date.]
(2) The register of employees maintained and kept under sub-section (1) may from time to time be inspected and signed by the persons employed in the shop or establishment.

18. Every shop-keeper or employer shall furnish every person employed in his shop or establishment with letter of appointment in such form as may be prescribed.
