[Corporation] Drains

228. (1) Subject to any general directions which the Executive Committee may from time to time give in this behalf, the [Municipal Commissioner] shall maintain and keep in repair all [Corporation] drains and may with the approval of the Executive Committee construct such new drains both within and without the City as shall from time to time be necessary for effectually draining the City and areas immediately around it :

Provided that no drain shall be constructed within the limits of a Cantonment without the approval of the State Government and otherwise than with the concurrence of the General Officer Commanding the Division in which such Cantonment is situate or, in the event of such concurrence being withheld, the previous sanction of the Central Government.

(2) The [Municipal Commissioner] shall also, in the case of any street in which there is a municipal drain construct at the charge of the [Corporation] Fund such portion of the drain of any premises to be connected with such a [Corporation] drain as it shall be necessary to lay under any part of such street and the portion of any connecting drains so laid under the street shall vest in the [Corporation] and be maintained and kept in repair by the [Municipal Commissioner] as a [Corporation] drain.
