Section 50: Notification for election and vacancy

[50. A general election shall be held for the purpose of constituting or reconstituting a Corporation.

(2) For the said purpose, the State Government shall, by notification published in the official Gazette, on such date as may be recommended by the State Election Commission, call upon all wards in the City to elect [Corporators] and the [Mayor] in accordance with the the provisions of this Act and of the rules and orders made thereunder.

(3) If a casual vacancy occurs in the office of [Mayor], [ * * * ] or a [Corporator] owing to death or resignation or any other cause such office or seat, as the case may be shall be declared vacant by the State Government by notification published in the official Gazette.

(4) When an office or seat has been declared vacant, the State Election Commission shall, by a notification in the official Gazette, call upon the ward concerned or, as the case may be, the [Corporators], to elect a person for the purpose of filling the vacancy so caused in accordance with the provisions of this Act and of the rules and orders made thereunder before such date as may be specified in the notification.]
