248. [* * * *] Whoever, in a street or public place within the municipality, begs importunately for alms, or exposes or exhibits with the objects of exciting charity a deformity or disease or an offensive sore or wound, shall be liable on conviction [to imprisonment which may extend to one month or to a fine which may extend to fifty rupees or to both. ]
