GOVERNMENT OF WEST BENGAL LEGISLATIVE DEPARTMENT West Bengal Act XIX of 1979 THE WEST BENGAL ANIMAL SLAUGHTER CONTROL (AMENDMENT) ACT, 1979. [Passed by the West Bengal Legislature.] West Ben. Act XXII of
1950. [Assent of the Governor was first published in the Calcutta Gazette, Extraordinary, of the 26th September, 1979.] [26th September, 1979.] An Act to amend the West Bengal Animal Slaughter Control Act, 1950. WHEREAS it is expedient to amend the West Bengal Animal Slaughter Control Act, 1950, for the purposes and in the manner hereinafter appearing; It is hereby enacted in the Thirtieth Year of the Republic of India, by the Legislature of West Bengal, as follows:-
1. This Act may be called the West Bengal Animal Slaughter Control (Amendment) Act, 1979.
2. In section 3 of the West Bengal Animal Slaughter Control Act, 1950 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act),—
(a) for clause (iii), the following clause shall be substituted:— `06) "President" means,—
(a) in relation to a municipality, any person presiding over the affairs of any municipal authority, and
(b) in relation to a Panchayat Samiti, any person presiding over the affairs of any Panchayat Samiti, by whatever name called, and includes any person nominated by him for the purposes of this Act;'; and
(b) for clause (v), the following clause shall be substituted:— `(v) "Veterinary Surgeon" means,—
(a) in areas other than Calcutta, a Veterinary Surgeon, and
(b) in Calcutta, aVeterinary Surgeon of the Directorate of Veterinary Services, Government of West Bengal, acting within the local limits of his jurisdiction, and'. Short title. Amendment of section 3 of West Ben. Act XXII of

3. In section 4 of the principal Act,—
(a) in sub-section (2), for the words "The President of a municipality and the Veterinary Assistant Surgeon", the words "The President of a municipality or a Panchayat Samiti, as the case may be, and the Veterinary Surgeon" shall be substituted; and
(b) in sub-section (3), for the words "the President of a municipality and the Veterinary Assistant Surgeon", the words "the President of a municipality or a PanchayatSamiti, as the case may be, and the Veterinary Surgeon" shall be substituted.
4. In section 6 of the principal Act,—
(a) in sub-section (1), for the words "the President of a municipality or the Veterinary Assistant Surgeon or any person,", the words "the President of a municipality or a Panchayat Samiti, as the case may be, or the Veterinary Surgeon or any person" shall be substituted; and
(b) in sub-section (2), for the words "the president of a municipality, the Veterinary Assistant Surgeon", in the two places where they occur, the words "the President of a municipality or a PanchayatSamiti, the Veterinary Surgeon" shall be substituted.
5. In section 10 of the principal Act, for the words "All Presidents of municipalities, Veterinary Assistant Surgeons,", the words "All Presidents of municipalities or Panchayat Samitis, Veterinary Surgeon," shall be substituted.
6. In section 14 of the principal Act, in sub-section (2), for clause (c), the following clause shall be substituted:— "(c) the time and the places at which animals may be slaughtered in a municipality or a Block in pursuance of this Act;".
7. (1) The West Bengal Animal Slaughter Control (Amendment) Ordinance, 1979 is hereby repealed.
(2) Anything done or any action taken under the principal Act as amended by the West Bengal Animal Slaughter Control (Amendment) Ordinance, 1979 shall be deemed to have been validly done or taken under the principal Act as amended by this Act as if this Act had commenced on the 19th day of April, 1979.
