Sheaves and pulleys shall be of cast iron and free from cracks, sand holes and other injurious defects. They shall have machined rope grooves. The traction sheave shall be grooved to produce proper traction and shall be sufficiently thick to provide for future wear in the groove. The deflector sheave shall be grooved so as to provide a smooth bed for the rope. Deflector or secondary sheave assemblies where used shall be mounted in proper alignment with the traction sheave.
