Rule-2(1), In these Rules unless there is anything repugnant in the subject or context-
(i) "Special Survey" means the construction of digital map and construction and maintenance of record of rights to be made on the basis position of the property and ownership relating to the land with the help of modern technology by using aerial Photographs/ Satellite Images - taking latest position of land;
(ii) "Map" means the map of land that is say configuration prepared village wise of all the existing plots Revenue village with total numbers khesras and boundaries and all necessary details with the help of modern technology/ E.T.S or human technique by using Aerial Photographs/Satellite Images;
(iii) "Control Point" means the control points established by the Department of Survey of India, mainly made for control points for the Survey in the context of primary, secondary, tertiary,etc;
(iv) "Amin Diary" means Amin diary maintained in the prescribed format for verification and examination in work of survey, by Amin/Speical Survey Amin described in Serial no.-XI of sub-section (2) of section-2, of the Bihar Special Survey and Settlement Act, 2011 during field visit within the different stages of land survey for recording the proceeding of measurement and land survey;
(v) "Yaddast Register" means a Register maintained in the prescribed format by Amin and Kanungo for entering the claims and other details received from Raiyats with respect to their land under sub-section (1) of Section-5 of the Bihar Special Survey and Settlement Act, 2011 (as amended from time to time);
(vi) "Pedigree" means Pedigree prepared in the prescribed format Land Statement basis claim entered in it received from raiyats prepared by Amin/Kanungo within their jurisdiction clarifying their relationship with original Khatiyani/Jamabandi Raiyats under the provisions of sub-section (1) of section-5 of the Bihar Special Survey and Settlement Act, 2011 (as amended from time to time);
(vii) "Deputy Collector Land Reforms" means an officer appointed by the State Government as Land Reforms Deputy Collector for discharging duties and liabilities described for maintenance of land-records during land survey as per procedure described in the Bihar Special Survey and Settlement Act, 2011 (as amended time- to- time) and the Bihar Special Survey and Settlement Rules, 2012;
(viii) "Circle Officer-" means an officer appointed by the State Government as Circle Officer to discharge the duties and liabilities described in the Rules and the Act;
(ix) "Special Survey Amin- " means Special Survey Amin working as an Amin for Special Survey works for discharging the duties and liabilities of Amin described in the Rules and the Act;
(x) "Special Survey Kanoongo-" means Special Survey Kanoongo working as kanoongo for discharging the duties and liabilities of Kanoongo described in the Rules and the Act;
(xi) "Special Survey Assistant Settlement Officer- " means an officer working as Special Survey & Settlement Officer to discharge the duties liabilities of the Assistant Settlement Officer in Special Survey as described in the Act and Rules.

(xii) "Electronic Total Station-" means the modern equipment measuring the land in conformity according to criterion as prescribed by the Government and in conformity with the standards determined by the Government;
(xiii) "Differential Global Positioning System-" means the modern equipment to indicate Specific Co-ordinations of Specific Place and correct positions on the Earth by linking the signals received from the Satellite with Ground Coordinates;
(xiv) "Tie-Line- " means the line connecting the smaller Survey Blocks on the main Survey Line;
(xv) "Teriz-" means the statement prepared by recorded informations of the entries in the Khatiyan- currently in use;
(xvi) "Land Parcel Map-" means a map depicting one parcel as part of specific land portion.
(2) Words and expressions used but not defined in these Rules shall have the same meaning which have been assigned to them in the Bihar Special Survey and Settlement Act, 2011 (as amended from time to time).
(3) The words "Licensed Surveyor" used in the Bihar Special Survey and Settlement Rules, 2012 shall be substituted by the words "Amin/Special Survey Amin"
(4) In view of section-2 (1) of the Bihar Special Survey and Settlement Act, 2011, unless otherwise requires in the context the definitions provided in the Bihar Tenancy Act, 1885, the Bihar Land Reforms Act, 1950, the Survey and Settlement Manual, 1959, the Tenant holding (Maintenance of Records) Act, 1973 and Bihar Mutation Act, 2011 shall be applicable.
