rso. steps.--(1) In every public servlce vehtcle other than a moto! cab, the top of the tread of the lowest step for any entrance or exlt, other than an emergency exlt shall not be more than 500 milmetres or less than 425 mlumetres above the ground where vehlcle is empty. Fixed steps shall not less than 225 mllimetres wide .and shall be 1n no case project laterally beyond the body of the vehtcle unless they are so protected by the front wings or otherwlse that they are not liab]e to lnJure pedestllans. ahe shortest dtstance between any step vrelt and a vettlEal plane passing thloughout the ilont edge of a seat shall not be less than 225 mlllmetres-
(2) In the case of double decked vehlcle :--
(a) the lisers of al] steps ]eadlng from the lower to the upper deck shau be closed and no unguarded aperture sha1l be left at the top landlng board ,
(b) a1I steps leadlng from the lower to upper deck shalt be fitted rrlth ron-slip treads;
(c) the horlzental dlstance from the nearest point of the rls€r of the top step to the vertical Une passing through the nearest point of the seat opposlte to the top tread of the stalrcase excludlng any grab ratt which does not project more than 75 millmetres from the back of the seat, shall not be less than 560 mlllmetres ; and
(d) the outer strlnge. of an outslde staircase shall be so constructed or a band shau be so placed, as to act a screen to persons ascendlng or descendlng and the helght of the outer guard rall shalt not be less than one metre above the front of th€ tread of each step.
