Section 6: Delimitation of wards.

The Jammu and Kashmir Municipal Corporation Act, 2000Union territory Act of Jammu and Kashmir · Act 21 of 2000

For the purposes of elections of Councillors the Deputy Commissioner shall, in accordance with such rules as may be prescribed by the Government :––

(a) divide the municipal area into wards in such a manner that––

(i) one Councillor shall be elected from each ward ; and

(ii) as far as possible the population in each ward shall be equally distributed :

Provided that the population in each ward shall not be less than 7500 and the number of total seats to be filled by direct election shall not exceed seventy five ;

(b) determine the territorial extent of each ward ; and

(c) determine the ward or wards in which seats are reserved under this Act.
