Section 23: Presiding officer and polling Officer

(1) The Returning Officer shall appoint one Presiding Officer and such number of Polling Officer as the thinks necessary for each polling station.

(2) A polling Officer shall also be authorized by the returning officer to do the duties of the presiding Officer in his absence.

(3) If a Presiding Officer, owing to illness or other unavoidable circumstances becomes unable to attend to functions or remains absent from the Polling station, his functions shall be performed by such polling officer, as has been previously authorized by the Returning Officer.

24. Duties of Presiding Officer/Polling Officers.

It shall be the duty of the Presiding Officers and the polling officers at each polling station to see that the polls is conducted fairly and in proper manner as per guide lines and direction in the detailed instructions set out in Annexure - 1 to these rules.
