Section 17: Wages to prisoners working in Canteens

Punjab Jail Canteen Management Rules, 1965State Act of Punjab · Act 3706 of 1965

Wagès tó priaohers working in the. canteens shall be paid from the.balance.,of accoupts,undçr. canteen. pront as under :

(a) amount.equal to 1/4th o£, the. wage to the.gredit to,..th� indiyidual's account of prisoners concerncd in' his wage sheet and fegister No.-19.

(b) amount equal to 3/4th of wage shoüld be passe� on ás cttedit to' register No..44,and paid to the treasury under chalan..being. creditable. to.

the account under head XVÈI�Jails.

18. General.a) Physical yerificatign; pf stores/stöck of canteeps shall be conducted by the Deputy Superintendent SuperintendentJat aa: the casë may be, onco every three-.months and a certificate to-that. effect, reçorded, and, sent to .I.G., Prisons. The physical verifica�ion shall also b� done'by AGOndother Head quarters officers on.theit regúlar visits to jails.

(b) The canteens shall not be run ön cômmercial básis, Thêss sháll be run for the benefit and welfare of the prisoners and the capital invéstment is to be ade by the prisoners themselves. The. purchase of furniture, fittings and other equip ment for the canteens, may, however, be.purchased out Íf the canteen funds.

(c) A balance sheet in respect of each canteen shall 6e preparedát the close of financial year, and laid before the Management Committee for approval. One copy of the Balance Sheet shall be exhibited at the place near the Canteen for in formation of the prisoners.

(d) The canteen fund shall be kept in the State Bank of India or any other bank with the sañction' of the Inspector-General of Prisons, The income shall be credited in the Bank at least once in a week and ofteher if necessary so that the cash in hand on a particular day does not exceed Rs S0.

(e) All properties other than consumable articles of the canteen shall be entered-in the property'register and shall be verified annually by the Preside rt. e property register will also be open to inspection by the Inspecting Officers ngthe Jail.

Miscellaneous,-Bata shoes and chappals, boot, brush, kachha, vnderwears, rcncils, Cxercise books, bunyan,' ocks, towels.

Toilet articles like soap, tooth paste, tooth brush, comb, oi.

Note,-A list showing prices of various articles fixed by the Superintendent Jail will be conspiciously exbibited at the Canteen Counter.
