The employer shall ensure at a construction site of a building or other construction work that,- -66-
(a) wooden and metal chutes which are at an angle of more than 45 degrees to the horizontal and used for the removal of materials are closed on all sides except at their openings used for receiving or discharging of materials or articles:
(b) all opening of chutes except their top opening are closed when not in use;
(c) every chute,-
(i) is constructed of sound material, adequate strength and is suitable for the purpose it is intended for use; and
(ii) exceeding twelve metres in height is constructed in accordance with the design and drawings of a professional engineer for such construction and approval of the Chief Inspector of Inspection of Building and Construction;
(d) a suitable warning notice is displayed at conspicuous location written in Tamil at the discharge end of every chute; and
(e) every chute is cleared when debris has accumulated to a height which can pose danger to building worker but such clearance is done in no case less frequently than once a day.
