In these rules, unless there is anything repugnant in the subject or context,-
(1) “Act” means the Tamil Nadu Payment of Salaries Act, 1951 (Tamil Nadu Act XX of 1951);
(2) “Apartment” means an apartment in the Quarters;
(3) “Assembly” means the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly;
(4) “Authorised Offi cer” means an offi cer not below the rank of Under Secretary, Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Secretariat authorised by the Secretary to counter-sign the rental charge bills of the Former Members for payment;

(5) “celebration” means Independence Day or Republic Day celebration held at Chennai;
(6) “Council” means the erstwhile Tamil Nadu Legislative Council;
(7) “day” means a period of twenty-four hours beginning at the hour of occupation of accommodation;
(8) “family” means father, mother, spouse and children of the Member or Former Member;
(9) “Form” means the Forms appended to these rules;
(10) “Former Member” means Former Member of the Assembly or Former Member of the Council;
(11) “Government” means the State Government;
(12) “Hostel” means the Tamil Nadu Ex-Legislators’ Hostel;
(13) “Member” means Member of the Assembly;
(14) “Quarters” means Member’s Residential Apartment Quarters;
(15) “room” means room in the Hostel; and
(16) “Secretary” means the Secretary to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Secretariat;
