The University sl~all have the following abjects, na~iiely :--
(1) to provide for instruction and training in sucll branches' of ;tamilig as it rnay determine in the field of medical science ;
(2) to provide for research and for the advhnceo~eni and iissemi- ~atiorl of knowledge in the field of medical science ;
' ) (3) to institute degrees, diplomas and other academic distinctions ; 1
(4) to institute leclurerships, readerships, prof~ssorships and other xaching posts required by the University and to appoict persons to cuch lecturerships, readerships, professorships and other teaching posts;
(5) to institute and award fellowships, ~cholarsl~ips, studentships, bursaries, exhibitions, medals and prizes in acccirdance wiril the statutes;
(6) to institute research posts and to appoint persons to such xsts ;
(7) to organise advanced studies and research progra~nmes from dmp fn time 2 *
(8) t'o organise conthuiag medical education programmes;
(9) to develop research
(10)Ao encourage co-operation among the colleges, Univaity laboratories, hospitals and institutions in the University area and to cb- -. ordinate with other Universities and other authorities in such manner ' aid -for such purposes as the University may determine.
. 5. Powers of University-The Uni ' powers, namely :-

(9) to establish, maintain and manage hostels, to recognise hostels , not maintained by the University under conditions prescribed a n d . t ~ - withdraw such recognition thereof ;
(10) to exercise such control over the students of the University, through the colleges and institutions, as will secure their health and wellbeing and discipline ;
(11) to hold and manage endowments and other properties and funds of the University ; I
(13) to fix fees and to demand and receive such fees, as, may 'be.
(14) to make grants from the funds of thi'uni~ersit~ for the tenance of National Cadet Corps, National Service Scheme or othef + 31 '1 similar organisations ; and 87 Jc (1 5) generally to do all such other acts and things as may be neca..
sary or desirable to further the objects of the University.
6. Colleges situate within University area riot to be aflilkted to mry other University and recognition of in~tititutionr by Universify-(1) NO college or institution within the University area shall be S i a t e d to any other University other than the Tamil Nadu Medical I University.
(2) No institution aRliated to, or associated with, or yaintahd by, any other University whether within rhe State cf Tamil Nadu outside the State of Tamil Nadu shall be recognised by the Universif~ for any purpose except with the prior approval of the Government a d the University concerned. ~ , CHAPTER 111. ' 10. The Vice-Chancellor.-(1) Every appointment of the vice-khan-' cellor shall be made by the Chancellor from out of a panel of three names recoinmended by the Committee referred to in sub-section (2). Such panel shall not contain the name of any member of the said Committee.
(2) For the purpose of sub-section (I), the Committee shall consist of three persons of whom one shall be nominated by the Government, one shall be nominated by the Senate and one shall be no~ulnated b) ,die .
