The Tamil Nadu Urban Local Bodies Act, 1998State Act of Tamil Nadu · Act 9 of 1999

(1) No person shall, on the date or dater on ~ h i c h o poll is taken at any polling station, commit any of the following acts within thc polline station or in al;y public or private place within a a ]stance of one hundred metres of the poll~ng station,.

namely :-

(a) c a n v a s s ~ for votes ; or , .

(b) soliciting the vote of any elector ; or

(c) persuading any elector not to votefor any particular qandidatz ; or (c!) persuad,ing any elector not to vote the election ; or , ,

(e) exhibiting any notice or sign (other than officiszl r.cjtice relatins in the election),

(2) Ally person who co~travenes the provisions of sub-section (I) shall be punished aith fine which n ~ a y extend to two hundrec. aac'. fifty rupres.

(3) An oirence punishable under this sectlon silall be cognizable.
