(1) No ?andidate or his agent or any other person with the consent of a Penalty for hitlne candidate or h ~ s agent shall h ~ r e or procure whether 01.1 payment or otllerwise or procurtng of any vehicle or vessel for the conveyance of ariy elector (other than the caradidate vehicles fof himself, the membersof his family or his agent) to or fromany polling station: conveyance of voter at election.
Provideci that nothing in this sub-section shall apply to-
(a) the hiring of a vehicle or vessel by an elector or several electorsat their foint costs for the purpose of conveying hiin or them to or fro111 the polling station, if the vehicle or vessel so hired isa vehicle or vessel not propelled by mechanical power ;
(b) the use of any public transport vehicle or vessel or any railway carriage by any elector at his own cost for the purpose of going to or comifi~ from the polling station.
kxp1al:ation.-In this sub-section, the expression 'vehicle' means any vehicle used or capable of being usec. for the purpose of road transport whether propelled by mechanical power or otherwise and whether used for rlrawing other vehicles o r otherwise-
(2) Any person who contravenes the provisions of sub-section (1) a t or i ~ ?
connection with an election shall be punished with fine which may extend to two hundred and fifty rupees.
