(1) In every Municipality, out of the total strength of Reservation of elected members determined under sub-section (2) of seats, section 5 in the manner prescribed, seats shall be reservedfa) in favor of Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Castes in proportion to their respective population of the Municipality, and
(b) in favor of Backward Classes:
Provided that, the total reservations shall not exceed 50 percent of the total number of seats of the municipality.
(2) fa) 50% of the total number of seats reserved for Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes under sub-section (1) shall be reserved for women belonging to the Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes respectively.
(b) 50% of the total number of seats under sub-section
(1) including the reservations made under clause fa) of sub section (2) shall be reserved for women.
(3) The reservations referred to in sub-sections (1) and
(2) shall be made by rotation in the manner prescribed in the rules made under this Act 1 2[xxx].

2[(4) Notwithstanding anything contained in this section, whenever a Dedicated Commission is appointed, reservations shall be made as per the recommendations of such Commision, approved by the Government.]
