(1) These rules may be called the Uttar Pradesh Milk Rules, 1976.
(2) These extend to areas of Uttar Pradesh as the State Government may declare by Notification in official Gazette from time to time.
(3) The rules shall come into force from the date of their publication in the Gazette.
2. Definition- In these rules, unless the context otherwise requires :
(a) "Act" means the Uttar Pradesh Milk Act, 1976.
(b) "Chairman" means Chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Rajya Dugdh Parishad.
(c) "Co-operative Dairy Federation" means the apex level institution called the "Pradeshik Co-operative Dairy Federation Ltd., Lucknow."
(d) "Co-operative Milk Producers' Union" means an organisation of a number of primary co-operative milk producers' societies registered under U.P. Co-operative Societies Act, 1965 and engaged in one or more activities concerning production, procurement and processing of milk or manufacturing of milk products, sale of milk or milk products or dairy development programmes.
(e) "Form" means a form appended to these Rules.
(f) "Government" means the Government of Uttar Pradesh.
(g) "Milk Equivalent" means the quantity of raw milk used in the manufacture of a given quantity of milk product.
(h) "Primary Co-operative Milk Producers' Society" means a primary society registered under U.P. Co-operative Societies Act, 1965 and engaged in one or more activities concerning production, procurement and processing of milk or manufacturing of milk products, sale of milk or milk products, or dairy development programmes.

(i) "Rules" means rules made by the State Government under Section 27(1) of the Uttar Pradesh Milk Act, 1976 for carrying out the purposes of the Act.
(j) "Schedule" means a Schedule appended to these Rules.
(k) "Secretary" means the Member Secretary of the Uttar Pradesh Rajya Dugdh Parishad.
(l) "Words and expression, not defined in these Rules and used in the Act" shall have the meaning assigned to them in the Act.
