Section 4: Composition of the Institute

Sanjay Gandhi Postgradute Institute of Medical Sciences Act 1983State Act of Uttar Pradesh · Act 30 of 1983

(1) The Institute shall consist of the following members, namely-

(a) the Chief Secretary to the Government of Uttar Pradesh, --- ex-officio;

(b) the Secretary to the Government of Uttar Pradesh in the Department of Medical, Health and Family Welfare --- ex-officio;

(c) the Director of Medical Education, Uttar Pradesh, --- ex-officio;

(d) the Director of the Institute, ---ex-officio;

(e) the Secretary to the Government of Uttar Pradesh in the Finance Department,---ex-officio;

(f) seven persons having special knowledge or practical experience in or engaged in the pursuit of social science, scientific or technical education or research, to be nominated by the State Government;

(g) three representatives of the medical faculties of State Universities to be nominated by the State Government in the manner prescribed;

(h) three members of the State Legislature, of whom two shall be elected from amongst themselves by the members of the Legislative Assembly and one shall be elected from amongst themselves by the members of the Legislative Council;

(i) one member of Parliament from amongst those elected to the Council of States or the House of the People from Uttar Pradesh to be nominated by the State Government;

(j) one representative of the Ministry of Health of Government of India to be nominated by that Government;

(k) one representative of the University Grants Commission to be nominated by the Government of India;

(l) two educationists of eminence to be nominated by the State Government;

(m) four persons from amongst the teachers of the Institute to be nominated by the State Government to represent the faculties of the Institute.

[ (2) Out of seven persons to be nominated under clause (f) of sub-section (1) five persons including four medical experts shall be nominated by the State Government out of a panel to be prepared by a Committee consisting of the following persons :---

(i) the Director, Central Drugs Research Institute, Lucknow;

(ii) the Vice Chancellor, Chhatrapati Sahuji Maharaj Medical University, Lucknow;

(iii) the Vice Chancellor, Lucknow University;

(iv) the Director, Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi;

(v) the Director, Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh;

(vi) the Director, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi;

(vii) two eminent medical experts to be nominated by the President of the Institute;

(viii) the Secretary/Principal Secretary, Medical Education Department, Government of Uttar Pradesh;

(ix) the Director, Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow (Convenor).]

(3) The panel prepared by the Committee under sub-section (2) shall consist of not less than fifteen persons of whom at least eight persons shall be medical experts and it shall be revised every two years.
