In addition to the condition specified in the General Grading and Marking Rules, 1937, following shall be the special conditions of every certificate of authorisation issued for grading and marking of vanaspati under these rules : -
(1) An authorised packer shall be equipped with suitable plant for refining and hydrogenation of vegetable oils
(2) An authorised packer shall make arrangements for testing and analysis of vanaspati in a laboratory approved for the purpose by the Agricultural Marketing Adviser or an officer duly Authorised by him.
(3) The Factory premises and laboratory shall be kept clean, well ventilated and in goods sanitary condition.
(4) Vanaspati stored in the premises shall be kept in covered containers.
(5) No oil or fat other than those permitted to be used in manufacture of vanaspati shall be stored or stocked in the authorised factory premises.

(a) be the product obtained by process of modification including hydrogenating in any Form of refined edible vegetable oils@ specified in clause 2 of first schedule of the vegetable Oils Products (Standards of Quality;) Order, 1975 as amended from time to time.
(b) be clean and transparent on melting, free from sediment, staleness or rancidity and pleasant to taste and smell.
(c) be free from any colouring or flavoring* or any antioxidant, synergist, emulsifier or any other matter deleterious to health;
(d) contain not less than 25 IU of synthetic vitamin ‘A’ per gram at the time of packing and shall show a positive test for Vitamin ‘A’
(e) not contain any oil or fat of animal or mineral origin.
NOTE : @ Refined sesame oil shall not be less than 5 per cent by weight , but sufficient to ensure that the product conforms to the specifications prescribed for Baudouin test.
*Diecetyl 1 not exceeding 4 p.p.m may be added to vanaspati meant for supply to the Armed Forces only, in which case the containers shall be marked in bold letter “FOR CONSUMPTION BY ARMED FORCES”.
