Section 12: Unused Lifts or Escalator or Travelators

(1) Where a Lift or an Escalator or Travelator installed at any place ceases to be used, the owner or his agent, if any, shall forthwith give a written notice thereof in Form XII to surrender the license to the Chief Electrical Inspector and shall permanently block the open shaft area after disconnecting all sources ofpower to the lift.

(2) AII gates and doors in case of such unused Lift shall be efficiently locked so as to prevent the entry of unauthorized persons to the Lift well and the owner or his agent shall, if ordered by the Inspector so to do take such other precautions as are considered necessary by the Inspector to prevent the danger from such unused Lift, Escalator or Travelator.
