(1) On receipt of any information from the Child Marriage Prohibition Officer or suo motu, the Child Welfare Committee in case of a child, who is at imminent risk of marriage before attaining the age of marriage and whose parents, family members, guardian and any other person/s are likely to be responsible for the solemnization of such marriage, shall consider the child as a child in need of care and protection as per clause (14) of section 2 of the Juvenile Justice Act and take appropriate actions under the provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act.
(2) The Child Welfare Committee shall ensure that the education of the child is continued in the same school.
(3) Wherever required, the Child Welfare Committee shall first try to provide non-institutional services to the child and institutionalization to be the last resort.
(4) The Child Welfare Committee shall ensure the safety and protection of the child.
(5) The Child Welfare Committee shall follow the principle of ‘best interest’ of the child in all decisions relating to the child.
