Section 17: Salary and allowances and conditions of service of teachers

(1) The salary and allowances and terms and conditions of service of teachers of schools referred to in sub clauses (i) and (ii) of clause (n) of section 2 shall be as laid down by the State Government from time to time. In the case of teachers in unaided schools referred to in sub clause (iv) of clause

(n) of section 2, the salary and allowances and terms of conditions of service shall be in accordance with the regulations and guidelines issued by the State Government from time to time.

(2) In particular and without prejudice to sub-rule (1), the terms and conditions of service shall take into account the following namely:-

(a) adherence to the conduct rules and code of professional ethics for school teachers in force.

(b) accountability of teacher to the School Committee; and

(c) provisions enabling long term stake of teachers in the teaching profession.
